I hope all you players and parents are doing well. It’s been a crazy 4 months for me. I apologize to the middle school kids and parents – my wife and I became parents ourselves in September, so starting our middle school program this year was out of the question. However, now that we have some momentum with space indoors in the Special Events Center (more on that in a minute) I believe we can get it going in Fall of 2019.
Colter Curey steps down as Assistant Coach
Colter Curey resigned his position as Assistant Coach this week. I am incredibly sad to lose him, as he was instrumental in our State Girls 2nd place finish last year, and is an excellent coach.
Gym court space in the north mezzanine
The Captains just taped off a singles court in the north mezzanine of the Special Events Center as well as lines for the net height on both walls. We’ll do the south mezzanine next week. This means we’ve got indoor facilities! When you can get in there, hit against the wall or learn from the captains how to set up the nets and play.
Open Gym – Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:30pm
Open gym in these new facilities starts this week Monday & Wednesday from 5:30pm – 6:30pm. Middle school players are welcome!
Varsity hopefuls should be in SAQ.
If you’re planning on playing varsity tennis or played last year, I strongly suggest players to attend the Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ) class on Tuesday & Thursday 3:45 – 5pm if they are not currently in a sport.
Remind goes almost completely to the app, and so does Panther Tennis
Our remind code is @staytough, but the app will soon move away from texting Verizon. This means we’ll expect you to download and use the app to send and receive messages before and during the season.
Panther Tennis reaffirms its commitment to be a no cut program
I’ve been asked multiple times if we’re going to cut players this year. In our first year we did and Coach Yost and I agreed: it was a mistake to cut players. If the program grows larger than we can handle in one practice, we’ll expand, split practice and continue lobbying to expand our facility as our needs grow. Our goal is to have a full boys and girls Varsity and Junior Varsity squad in the next few years.
Thank you for your continued support of the team as we continue to grow. We can’t do this without you!
All the best,
Coach Justin
